Citizen Lab and Red Line for Gulf announced in a joint report that the Bahraini authorities hacked, once again, Bahraini activists with Pegasus just days after a report confirming other victims.

Sayed Ahmed Al-Wadaei, director of advocacy at the UK-based Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy, said that the UAE government has targeted him through the Israeli Pegasus spying program.

A team of former U.S. government intelligence operatives working for the United Arab Emirates hacked into the iPhones of activists, diplomats and rival foreign leaders with the help of a sophisticated spying tool called Karma, in a campaign that shows how potent cyber-weapons are proliferating beyond the world’s superpowers and into the hands of smaller nations.

Al-Jazeera website stated that an Israeli technology firm specializing in cyber intelligence offered Saudi Arabia a highly advanced system that hacks into mobile phones, months before Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman launched a mass purge, according to Haaretz.
