The Public Prosecution summoned yesterday Tuesday (September 5, 2017) the former detainee Rayhana Al-Mosawi and her husband Talal Alawi for interrogation on Wednesday, September 6.

The statements of the recently released Bahraini detainee, Rayhana Al-Mosawi, regarding the inhumane treatment she was subjected to in Bahraini prison prompted widespread international and local reactions.

Office of lawyer Mohammad Al-Tajer said that Rayhana Al-Mosawi received a phone call from Bahrain’s SIU asking her to be examined by a forensic physician and undergo medical tests, three years after filing her complaint.

The Bahraini Special Investigation Unit (SIU) affiliated to Public Prosecution summoned on Wednesday (May 11, 2016) Sayed Talal Alawi, husband of recently released detainee Rayhana Al-Mosawi, for interrogation.

Deputy Head of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR), Said Yousif al-Muhafdha, said that what is occurring with Rayhana Al-Mosawi and her husband, after they filed a complaint to the National Institute for Human Rights (NIHR), is “what we feared and expected”.

The charge raised against her was "involvement" in what was known as the "February 14 Group". Rayhana Al-Mosawi served 3 full years in prison, which makes her the Bahraini woman who spent the longest prison term, consecutively, since the 2011 events.

President of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR), Nabeel Rajab, announced that activist Rayhana Al-Mosawi documented on Sunday (May 8, 2016) at the National Institution for Human Rights the torture she was subjected to during her interrogation three years ago.

Bahrain's Public Security Chief Major-General Tariq Al-Hassan leveled a blast at the recently released prisoner, Rayhana Al-Mosawi, over the statements she made to Bahrain Mirror, implicitly accusing her of attempting to defame Bahrain and incite public opinion.

The recently released detainee Rayhana Al-Mosawi, in response to Bahrain's Chief of Public Security Tariq Al-Hassan who doubted the statements she made in an interview with Bahrain Mirror, said: "What I have mentioned has been already filed as a complaint in May 2013 to the Ombudsman and I have a copy of this complaint."

The Bahraini authorities released on Wednesday (April 20, 2016) detainee Rayhana Al-Mosawi after serving her 3-year jail term, which is considered the longest term served by a Bahraini female over politically-motivated charges.
