The countdown continues in Bahrain ahead of the commemoration of the fifth anniversary of February 14 uprising as protests are being staged in different villages and towns across Bahrain in preparation for this important event.

The European Parliament called on in a joint motion for a resolution “the Government of Bahrain to grant Mohammed Ramadan a royal pardon or to commute his sentence,” expressing its “concern and disappointment over Bahrain’s return to the practice of capital punishment.”

Amnesty International stated that eulogy reciter Ahmad Mushaima’ (son of prominent detainee Hassan Mushaima’) was released, after serving a one-year prison sentence for “publicly insulting the King of Bahrain”.

The Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR) expressed its concerns over the Bahraini “authorities’ retaliation against female human rights defenders through imprisoning them and judicially pursuing them to pressure them to stop their peaceful activism.”

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) condemned a Manama appeal court decision on Wednesday (February 3, 2015) upholding internationally-known photographer Ahmed Al-Fardan’s three-month jail sentence and arrest after the hearing to begin serving the sentence.
